I am directed to acknowledge the receipt

of your letters of the 22nd. January and 2nd. February in which you ask for a further period of six months within which to antisfy the Government regarding the financial ability of the promoters to carry out the Hongkong South Development Scheme and to inform you that His Excellency the Governor regrets that he is unable to comply with your request. The agreement, copies of which were sent you in my letter to you of the 10th. July, 1914, is therefore rescind- -ed and cancelled as from the 29th January.
